As they all say, spring weather is just around the corner. There is the hope of sunshine, walking around the lakes, and dining alfresco. Gearing up for warmer weather usually entails some spring maintenance on your home. Below are 5 spots to keep your home humming while you brunch outside at Hazelwood (one of our favorites!)
- INSPECT EXTERIOR FOR DAMAGE
We’ve had our share of winter storms and now is the time to see if they did any damage. Inspect your roof, gutters, and siding. Look out for loose or missing shingles, holes in the exterior, debris piled up in gutters, and siding damage. Fixing these items right away will prevent any further damage to the inside of your home.
- CLEAN WINDOWS AND SCREENS
You can’t pass up that natural light! Remove screens and gently run a handheld vacuum over each side to get off larger debris. Next, gently wash each side using a sponge or microfiber cloth and a mix of all-purpose cleaner and water. To clean the exterior of your home’s windows, you can use a mixture of dish soap, white vinegar, and water to get rid of dirt. Don’t be afraid to give it a good scrub. Inside you can opt for a cleaner spray – it will be way less messy. Our favorite cleaner is Sprayway!
- REPLACE HVAC AIR FILTERS
This should be happening about every one to three months depending on usage, pets, and type of filter you use, but hey, better late than never. The spring allergy sufferers in your life will thank you!
- TUNE UP YOUR A/C UNIT
Call in the professionals for this one & schedule now to get ahead of the game. While the unit is getting tuned up, make sure to check your home’s ductwork and vents to ensure there are no blockages. You won’t regret it comes July. We have used and recommended Gopher for all heating and A/C tune-ups.
BONUS: If you noticed ice dams over the winter, now would be a great time to evaluate the insulation and ventilation in your attic to prevent next season’s ice dams. Reach out to a reputable roofing and insulation contractor to help with evaluation and improvements.
Happy Spring!
